Hurricane Harvey What, and Where, to donate that will really help

By Natalia Castro - Summerlin - NW Las Vegas Publisher September 3, 2017
Most of the country has been watching the devastation left behind by Hurricane Harvey. It is hard to watch and not do anything but it is also difficult to know HOW to help from where we are. Here are a few helpful tips on how and what to donate.
What do we donate?
  • Provide Diapers (yes, diapers) Texas Diaper Bank needs these (order through Amazon to make it easy)
  • Donate to the Houston Food Bank
  • Donate blood at a local blood donation center or blood drive
  • Help the local animal shelters by donating much needed supplies
  • Houston Humane Society
  • SPCA of Texas
  • Houston SPCA
  • If I donate money will it get to the people that need it?
You can see where your monetary donation will go through an organization like GiveWell, Charity Navigator, and Charity Watch.
The below links have been collected from Macaroni Kid publishers who have family and friends in the affected areas.
    What should we NOT donate?
Not every donation is a good donation. If it is not needed it cannot be used. This video gives a look at what happens to items that are NOT needed. Most organizations prefer monetary donations because it allows them to purchase locally, which is less expensive and time consuming.
