Service Learning

By Natalia Castro, MK Summerlin- NW Las Vegas Publisher January 22, 2015
As many of you know Monday was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr day. A day set aside to honor a very influential man in America. Did you know that Monday was also MLK Day of Service? A day that people all over the country get together to volunteer their time and talents to giving back. No worries if you did not volunteer on Monday, there are MANY local opportunities throughout the year to lend your services to and most are family friendly.

Service opportunities range from helping out at your local church or place of worship, donating items to a children's hospital, spending time with the elderly, or raising money and awareness for a cause.

Here in Las Vegas we are an ACTIVE community so giving back in a way that gets you moving makes sense. There are several "walks" going on throughout the city in the upcoming months supporting different causes. One to check out is the Purple Stride 5k Run and Family Walk coming up on March 28, 2015 to raise funds and awareness for Pancreatic Cancer.
