Movies, Story times, Activities and Events for Summer

We are more than halfway through summer break! This means that Target already has their back to school section out and stores are announcing their sales. I'm not ready for break to be over so here is a list of FREE, and almost free, things to do before the kids head back to school. 

Disney Store Summer Play Days (Daily activities)

Kids of all ages enjoy a new activity every day and earn a new pin every week to add to their Summer Play Days lanyard. Activities include Art of Drawing, Trivia, Story Time and Showtime. July pins feature Marvel characters and August will feature Disney Jr friends. 


Barnes & Noble Get Pop Cultured (Activities throughout the week)

Get Pop Cultured with Barnes & Noble through the entire month of July. Events vary from Star Wars Storytime to Manga Mania and Throwback Thursdays. Each event has fun activities coinciding with the themes. Some activities are fun for all ages and others are geared towards teens and adults.

Las Vegas Clark County libraries continue the summer reading program with family friendly activities. Kids can enjoy story time for all age groups, free movie showings, summer concert series, and Teen Tuesdays among other activities. 

Kid's Court (weekly event)

The US Tennis Association is partnering with Downtown Summerlin to provide free tennis clinics for kids ages 3-10 years old. No reservations required and equipment is provided.

Crafts at Lakeshore (weekly event)

Each week features a new summer inspired craft. July 18th kids can enjoy making a Jumping Jellyfish, July 25th they will stay cool with a sun visor. Crafts continue throughout the year with themes changing to fit the seasons and holidays. These crafts are prefect for kids from preschool through school age. 

Summer Movie Nights (weekly event)
Thursday nights at Downtown Summerlin, Town Square & Downtown Container Park 
Movies begin at sundown every Thursday

Choose from one of the three locations showing family friendly movies every week! Movies begin at sundown (8ish) but come early to get a spot and enjoy fun family friendly activities before the movie. All movies are rated G or PG and a different movie is shown every week. Movies vary from animated like Despicable Me 2 to live action like Annie (2014). Bring a blanket or chairs and a picnic dinner or shop the vendors providing food. 

Regal Summer Movie Express - $1  (weekly event)

Each week features 2 family friendly movies playing at 10 am. Both movies play both days, so you can see two movies each week for $1 each! The week of July 21 features The Night at the Museum:Secret of the Tomb and Penguins of Madagascar

Michael's Passport to Imagination (Activities throughout the week)

Monday, Wednesday & Friday 10am-12pm
$5 per session or $12 for 2 sessions
Send your kids on an imaginary road trip creating crafts and earning stamps in their passports to redeem for prizes. Each day features a different activity. All supplies are included and students create a new project to take home each day. Reservations are recommended but drop ins are welcome. Projects are recommended for ages 4-12 years old and parents must stay in store for the class duration.
